Primary Producers at Borough Market
24/Nov/2011
Borough Market traders were delighted to welcome the next generation of budding producers and cooks to the Market last week. Children from the English Martyrs RC Primary School's year 2 class, along with their teacher Mrs Thomson, were shown around the Market, meeting traders and learning about the wide variety of food available at the Market.
The visit was organised to coincide with the school’s topic of Going Green, which is helping the children to learn about a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Last year the children planted turnips in the school’s allotment and this year, they are learning how to make turnip soup with the turnips they have grown. Our Demonstration chef, Hayley, was on hand to show the children how to turn their turnips into soup and to help them learn about the importance of nutrition.
Borough Market regularly welcomes schools to visit as part of our wider charitable commitments to providing food related health education and contributing to local community projects and schemes. If you are interested in arranging a visit for your school, please email events@boroughmarket.org.uk.
